Carpet cleaning: five easy steps

Share

In our 30 years of experience in the carpet industry, one of the significant considerations of our clients in purchasing a carpet is maintenance and cleaning.

Imagine this; you’ve just purchased a rug for your home. You invite your friends to a party, but tragedy strikes– someone accidentally spills wine on your new piece. Your heart sinks, and you search for ways to clean your precious new rug. Don’t worry; there’s no need to hire a professional because we’re here to teach you how to clean your precious carpet at home.

It is important to note that you need to know the material of your carpet since different types of materials have unique cleaning methods. If you have a rug made of synthetic fibers such as polypropylene or polyester, you must know they are effortless to clean. If you have a carpet made of natural fibers, it’s best to consult a professional carpet cleaner.

Polyester is friendly to allergy sufferers. It sheds moisture and resists molds and mildew. It is also stain and fade-resistant, implying that spills won’t alter this synthetic fiber. If your polyester rug is small enough, throw it in the washing machine. A 200 X 290 cm rug can fit most commercial-size washers and dryers.

On the other hand, polypropylene rugs are easy to clean and wash thanks to the remarkable properties of this appealing plastic fiber. They have excellent resistance against moisture and superb quality of stain color retention– you don’t have to worry about the colors fading.

Carpet Cleaning

Before doing anything, use a vacuum cleaner first. Vacuum both sides of the rug thoroughly to eradicate any lingering dust. Roll the carpet and take it outside to your cleaning area when it’s clean. Be sure to pick a day when the weather is clear and sunny (preferably for the next few days). It would be the best carpet cleaning tip!

Do not steam clean your rug in high temperatures. It might not be able to withstand the heat of a steamer. This could ruin the soft texture of the carpet.

For the following steps, you need a wet and dry vacuum cleaner, about 5L of water, carpet shampoo, an old toothbrush, a carpet brush or any soft-bristled brush, probably some paper towels, and a pair of rubber gloves.

Portion Cleaning

  1. Lightly wet the surface with clean water.
  2. Apply some carpet shampoo or white perla.
  3. Gently rub the area using your bare hands, an old toothbrush, a carpet brush, or any soft-bristled brush to work the shampoo or soap into stubborn spots.
  4. Vacuum the water off with a wet and dry vacuum to let it dry.
  5. Repeat the process until the specific area of dirt is removed.

Whole Piece Cleaning

  1. Hose down the rug with water. Ascertain the water flows in the direction of the pile.
  2. Apply some carpet shampoo or white perla.
  3. Use a carpet or soft-bristled brush to allow the shampoo or soap to work its way into the rug to save time and effort.
  4. Hose down the rug with water again to rinse.
  5. Leave the rug hanging to dry. You may also use a wet and dry vacuum to remove excess water.
  6. The carpet fibers may seem flattened after cleaning, but a final round of vacuuming will comb your rug, restoring its familiar appearance.
